About the job

Senior Field Service Engineer - Semiconductor Inspection & Metrology

Our client is a semiconductor capital equipment company who is seeking experienced Field Service Engineers specialising in new equipment installation, tool hookup, and site acceptance for metrology and inspection systems. You will be the on-the-ground technical expert responsible for bringing advanced metrology and inspection tools from delivery through to full production-ready qualification at customer fab sites. The role demands a high degree of technical independence, strong customer-facing skills, and a systematic approach to complex multi-tool installations in fab environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Installation & Tool Hookup
  • Lead end-to-end installation of metrology and inspection equipment at customer fab sites, from initial delivery and staging through to final tool qualification
  • Execute mechanical assembly, electrical hookup, utility connections (gas, vacuum, DI water, chiller lines), and safety interlocks in accordance with engineering specifications
  • Perform system-level bring-up, software initialisation, and tool calibration to meet OEM-specified performance baselines
  • Conduct site readiness assessments prior to installation and coordinate with facility and process engineers to resolve infrastructure gaps
  • Tool Qualification & Acceptance
  • Run installation qualification (IQ), operational qualification (OQ), and performance qualification (PQ) protocols to achieve customer sign-off
  • Execute tool matching and fleet baseline activities across multiple systems within the same fab
  • Document all installation activities, deviations, and resolution steps in service reports and OEM tracking systems
  • Customer Interface & On-Site Support
  • Act as the primary technical contact for customer facility, process, and engineering teams throughout the installation cycle
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting for installation-related issues, escalating hardware or software defects to the appropriate product engineering teams
  • Train customer engineers on tool operation, basic maintenance procedures, and safety protocols post-installation
  • Cross-Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with project managers, applications engineers, and logistics teams to keep installation schedules on track
  • Feed back field observations on hardware reliability, installation complexity, and recurring issues to sustaining and product engineering

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on field service or equipment installation experience in the semiconductor industry; 8+ years strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with metrology and/or inspection equipment — optical, e-beam, or wafer geometry systems (e.g. CD-SEM, overlay, film thickness, defect inspection)
  • Solid understanding of tool hookup requirements including cleanroom utilities, vacuum systems, electrical interfaces, and safety systems
  • Familiarity with IQ/OQ/PQ qualification frameworks and fab acceptance processes
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, wiring schematics, and installation manuals
  • Self-driven and capable of working independently at customer sites with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build rapport with customer teams across technical and operational levels
  • Willingness to travel overseas
